The Staten Island Urban Center is grateful for its two year residency at Governors Island. We have welcomed more than 4000 visitors to our We Are A Waterfront Exhibition. This year we featured Water Into Land, a working documentary by Lost Horizons Films about environmental justice issues on Staten Island. We've featured local artists such as Lina Montoya, Olga Ayala, Nataki Hewling, Everet, Shani Mitchell, John Kilcullen, Caryn Davis, Sarah Yuster Art, Raquel Sanchez, Donna Napoli-Steele, Gail Middleton and several others. We highlighted environmental activism on Staten Island, the work of local organizers, and several historical moments concerning social justice. In commemoration of this final exhibit on Sunday November 3rd, 2024 we want to recognize a long time supporter and donor of the Staten Island Urban Center the wonderful and late Gail Middleton who was a waterfront lover and artist. She inspried many with her kindness and thoughtful art. We were fortunate to feature her last exhibition piece Flotsam and Jetsam which was made with pieces she recyceld from collecting along the shoreline everyday as she cleaned up the beach. They were brilliant pieces that spoke to do what we can to clean up our environment and take action for climate justice. Please join us.
