Staten Island Urban Center (SIUC), Staten Island Therapeutic Gardens, Bait-ul Jamaat and design studio A+A+A are working to activate Tompkinsville Park as a community asset that uplifts the richness of Afro-Caribbean and Latin culture through food, art, dance and music grounded in the memories of ancestors.
The team will launch a food and spice market in 2024 that brings visibility to Black, Afro-Caribbean, and Latinx communities in Staten Island. The project is currently in the discovery phase, engaging community members through playful workshopping to learn about the needs and desires for Tompkinsville Park.
