Black History Month Drum Circle - Sunday, February 21, 2021 2pm Bldg P- near Tuscan Garden2/18/2021 BLACK HISTORY MONTH DRUM CIRCLE
WHEN: Sunday, February 21, 2021 @ 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM SNUG HARBOR CULTURAL CENTER & BOTANICAL GARDEN Celebrate Black History Month through the gathering of a drum circle! The Staten Island Urban Center, Alkebulan Consciousness Rising, and the Staten Island Afro American Historical & Genealogical Society are partnering with Snug Harbor for a blessing of the African diaspora: the drum circle. The drum circle will take place in the RCSF Tuscan Garden near the East Gate and Heritage Farm. While we will have some extra drums, please feel free to bring your own drum or percussion instrument to join this celebration of community. WHEN: Sunday, February 21 | 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM (Rain date: February 28) WHERE: RCSF Tuscan Garden ADMISSION: Free! | Registration required here The Landfill Fashionista exhibit, a project of the Staten Island Urban Center, calls for environmental justice, changing the narrative about what is disposable, contaminated, or ugly, and transforming it into the beauty that communicates hope and power. Alkebulan Consciousness Rising is a cultural education organization spreading awareness of Black history, ancestry, and traditions. The Afro American Historical Genealogical Society is a nonprofit organization made up of historians and educators seeking to enrich knowledge and understanding of Staten Island’s Black history. Due to COVID-19 concerns, attendance is limited. Please register in advance. Please wear a mask. Sanitizer, wipes, and latex gloves will be made available. All COVID regulations and social distancing will be followed. This YouthMatters program is made possible with funding provided by the New York City Council.
