In an effort to lift ideas for environmental justice we took a look at what makes an environment positive... How do we make the concrete park a space for play as it competes with negative influences...? This was the beginning of our journey.. This is Tompkinsville Park... and our strategy was a youth takeover and the power of play.

What is Climate Change? Youth use interviews, collage work and creative writing to explore a critical question in their lifetime... What is Climate Change? Ray's Pod 1 was part of group of youth (ages 14-15 years old) who were a part of the Children's Aid Society SYEP Project Based Learning Program. Ray Ramirez of The Lyric Lab was their facilitator.
Four a.m. in the hood As pollution fills the air, I feel the cold wind as it passes by my skin As I open my window I hear sanitation trucks and I can smell the stench of the garbage and the grinding of the compactor I can also see the smoke going off into the air. AP is Ayven. He likes his dogs Diva, DahBayBee, Benji and Lola. He also has twin dogs Lucky and Midnight. AP is 14 years old and will be going to Port Richmond High School to study Culinary Arts. He likes to cook. His favorite dish to cook is Chicken Alfredo. AP was part of the Staten Island Urban Center’s Virtual Environmental Justice Media Program. He is an awesome poet/writer.
